According to SEMATECH, semiconductor company executives have a hard time enjoying statistics that are produced by engineers in their quest to provide real-time accurate analysis of all aspects of the business and manufacturing dynamics.

Micronas losses force major restructuring Print E-mail

Micronas Group is to restructure its consumer IC division due to significant market share and financial losses in that sector. Approximately 300 jobs will be cut across all sites with the majority of jobs going in R&D and a greater shift in IC design to its R&D facility in Shanghai, China.

TEEX’s courses cover a broad spectrum Print E-mail

The Texas Engineering Extension Service, or TEEX, has announced its collaboration with the Texas A&M University’s Department of Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution.  As a result of this partnership, TEEX has added some management level courses to its repertoire.

Avago Technologies cuts 400 jobs mainly from Asian workforce Print E-mail

Avago Technologies, a private equity-owned analog semiconductor manufacturer, has said that approximately 400 jobs would be lost primarily in Asia. The cuts have come about as the company continues to adopt its manufacturing outsourcing program or asset-lite initiative.

Intel Ireland announces 200 planned redundancies - updated Print E-mail

A surprise announcement from Intel Ireland yesterday will lead to the loss of 200 jobs in its Leixlip, Co. Kildare manufacturing plant by the end of the year.  The redundancies will be voluntary and statutory entitlements and pay packages are in the pipeline for those who are laid off.

Dates for iSLI’s upcoming DSP course unveiled Print E-mail

Engineers from FPGA and related backgrounds are being targeted with the iSLI’s recent announcement of dates for its upcoming DSP course.  The course will take place from the 8th to the 11th of October at the Alba Campus in Livingston.

Intel donates 200mm process line to Chinese University Print E-mail

As part of Intel Corporation's plans to build a chip-set 300mm front-end fab in China that it expects to come on stream in 2010, the company is donating a complete line of 200mm process equipment to the Dalian University of Technology and the Dalian Municipal Government.  The donation will establish a Semiconductor Technology Institute for training purposes to assist Intel in recruiting the right graduates for the new fabrication facility.

ANADIGICS acquires Fairchild’s RF Design Team Print E-mail

Fairchild Semiconductor has sold its RF Group business in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts for $2.3 million to ANADIGICS. The deal includes fixed assets, certain leases, software, licenses and intellectual property. 23 RF design engineers will also be offered the opportunity to join ANADIGICS' team that is focused on developing RF active semiconductor devices for the 3G Cellular, WiFi and WiMAX markets.

Freescale’s fabs in Scotland up for grabs Print E-mail

Freescale Semiconductor has officially placed its two semiconductor fabs in Scotland up for sale. The facilities include an operational 150mm semiconductor manufacturing facility in East Kilbride and a 200mm wafer fabrication shell in Dunfermline.

Analog Devices cuts 150 jobs at its Limerick, Ireland plant (updated) Print E-mail

Analog Devices' presence in Limerick in the west of Ireland has been lessened with the announcement that the fabless company is planning to cut the jobs of 150 of its 1,100 employees.  The news is accompanied by the announcement that the company plans to phase out and close one of its sections at this location.
