Next year’s SEMICON Taiwan shares location Print E-mail

Semicon TaiwanSEMI has continued its show shuffling with the news that SEMICON Taiwan will be co-located with International IC-Taiwan Conference & Exhibition (IIC-Taiwan) in 2008. IIC-Taiwan is run by events organization Global Sources. The trade shows are scheduled to run from Sept. 9-11, 2008 at the Taipei World Trade Center.

Book-to-bill up slightly in October Print E-mail

SEMIThe latest Book-to-Bill Report published by SEMI for October shows a small increase over September, coming in at 0.83 compared to the revised lower ratio in September of 0.79. North American-based equipment suppliers posted $1.23 billion in orders in October 2007 (three-month average basis), according to SEMI.

SIA projects semiconductor CAGR of 7.7 percent through 2010 Print E-mail

SIAIn its annual forecast of global semiconductor sales, The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) is projecting a compound annual growth rate of 7.7 percent for the forecast period of 2007-2010, reaching $321 billion in sales in 2010.

WSTS guides 2007 & 2008 semiconductor sales higher Print E-mail

WSTSThe World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) has revised upwards its previous forecast for semiconductor sales in 2007 to $257.2 billion - a 3.8 percent increase over 2006. For 2008 and 2009, WSTS has kept its forecast close to its original projections with 9.1 and 6.2 percent growth respectively.

iSuppli expects DRAM & NAND pricing recoveries in 2008 Print E-mail

ImageOvercapacity in both the DRAM and NAND flash markets has outstripped unit demand to such a degree that iSuppli Corp. has downgraded its rating of near-term conditions for suppliers of such components to ‘negative’ with recovery in prices not expected until 2Q08.

Hynix gains market share due to bit growth & 70nm migration Print E-mail

NovemberAccording to new data released by DRAMeXchange, Hynix grew sales by 15.4 percent in 3Q07 compared to the previous month.  This growth was due to a combination of 17 percent Q-on-Q shipment growth and a slight increase of 3 percent ASPs via the contract market.

Qimonda cuts capex and boosts R&D spending Print E-mail

QimondaFollowing two sequential quarterly losses and a full year net loss of approximately $365 million, Qimonda has trimmed capital spending for 2007 as well as guidance on CapEx for 2008 that is lower than its revised 2007 figure.

Foundry capex spending 10 percent down in 2008, says Gartner Print E-mail

CapExGartner is now projecting capital spending for the top four foundries (TSMC, UMC, SMIC & Chartered) to be down 9.6 percent in 2008 at $6.3 billion compared to 2007. Acacia Semiconductor acquired by S3 Print E-mail

AcaciaSilicon & Software Systems (S3) has acquired Acacia Semiconductor, the analog IP company, for an undisclosed sum.  The takeover will involve the integration of Acacia’s technology and designers to combine with S3’s products and design.
