Painful indeed as Sony Corp outlined its new direction in the coming years, just as the last new direction comes to an end. Jobs and factories will go. VLSI Research reported that the Vacuum Subsystem market for semiconductor and related industries grew 60% in 2004, reaching $1.2B.  MKS Instruments was the dominant supplier in the vacuum gauge and control segment, taking nearly 60% of this $166M market.
