sales of $25.8 billion US dollars, according to market research firm VLSI
Research. The research firm pegged wafer fab sales in 2005 at $24.1 billion

forecasting semiconductor capital expenditure to increase 5 percent in 2006
compared to the spending rate in 2005. The big difference, according to the
market research firm year on year is that spending will now be more sequential

Semiconductor sales for November 2005 topped $20 billion
($20.4 b) for the first time, according to the Semiconductor Industry
Association (SIA). Worldwide semiconductor sales increased by 7.2 percent from
the $19.0 billion reported for November 2004. Sales were up 1.7 percent
sequentially from the $20.1 billion reported for October.

Mentor Graphics encryption technology for use with IBM's 90nm, 65nm, and 45nm
process design kits. "Calibre" will be employed by IBM to assist in design for
manufacturing (DFM), DRC, LVS and extraction methodologies, while protecting

Instruments, has entered into an agreement to acquire privately held Umetrics
AB, of Sweden, to further boost its presence in the Advanced Process Control
(APC) market both in the semiconductor field and other industries. The
companies had previously been involved in technology licensing. Umetrics will
be absorbed in to MKS' Instruments and Control Systems product group, though
