iSuppli cuts 2007 semiconductor forecast by half Print E-mail

ICThe poor performing first half of 2007, fuelled by memory over-capacity and competitive pricing pressure in most markets, has meant that iSuppli Corp. has now cut its full year revenue forecast for the industry by almost half. The market research firm is now projecting only 3.5 percent revenue growth in 2007, down from its June adjusted forecast of 6 percent.

SEMI Book-to-Bill in slump Print E-mail

SEMIThe August 2007 Book-to-Bill Report from SEMI for North American-based equipment manufacturers highlights both a two-month slump in the book-to-bill ratios and a downward trend overall. The August book-to-bill ratio of 0.83 is preliminary; however SEMI adjusted the July figure down slightly, now matching the August figure.

Infineon takes steps to reduce link with Qimonda Print E-mail

ImageInfineon’s decision to reduce equity interest in Qimonda took another step with the announcement that Infineon is to reduce the amount of American Depository Shares it holds in the company.  Infineon is to sell off 25 million ADSs, with a greenshoe option of 3.75 million more being offered for sale in the future.

Varian tops Taiwan chip manufacturers' satisfaction rankings, reports VLSI Research Print E-mail

ImageVLSI Research has revealed the best equipment suppliers as rated by customers in Taiwan on cue for SEMICON Taiwan taking place this week.  In this extended list of 20 companies, ion implanter specialist Varian Semiconductor was ranked first with an overall ranking of 8.71 up from fourth position with a ranking of 7.97 in 2006.

Analog takes rare fall; bounce back of 15 percent expected in 2008, notes IC Insights Print E-mail

ImageAnalog chip suppliers are expected to feel a slight chill this year, something they have not experienced since 2001, when everyone was reeling from the worst industry downturn on record. According to IC Insights, the analog IC market will decline by 2 percent in 2007, the first time in five years.

ImageAccording to the latest report from the SIA, worldwide sales of semiconductors increased to $20.6 billion in July - an increase of 2.2 percent on July 2006 and an increase of 3.2 percent on June 2007.

Foundries falter in first-half; TSMC’s market share dips Print E-mail

ImageAlthough TSMC is by far the largest pure-play foundry with a current market share of 42.3 percent, it would seem to be the foundry suffering most from a loss of market share in the first half of 2007, according to a report in Gartner's weekly newsletter to clients.

PC applications to fuel NAND flash growth through 2011, says Semiconductor Partners Print E-mail

ImageNAND flash demand seems set to continue through 2011, according to a new report from Semiconductor Partners, the new offspring from SEMICO Research. Although everything ‘pod' like has been an important market for NAND in recent years, Semiconductor Partners believe that computing applications will grow at a CAGR of 55 percent between 2006 and 2011 making up nearly two-thirds of the NAND flash market.
