Tower Semiconductor has stated that both its production fabs have passed 90 percent utilization in the second quarter a feat not achieved in over four years. Chartered Semiconductor has warned that due to weaker than expected demand for end product devices in the second quarter, its customers are being cautious on committing to any increases in production runs. Spansion Inc has announced that it is to expand its foundry
partnership with TSMC that will include an increase in production
capacity by using the foundry's 300mm wafer fabs and migrate Spansion's
MirrorBit technology to the 90nm node. The previous agreement between
the companies was for TSMC to fabricate Spansion's 110nm MirrorBit
technology at 200mm wafer fabs, which began in 2Q06. The new agreement

The Bosch Group is investing some 550 million euros in the construction of a 200mm fab at its manufacturing complex in Reutlingen, Germany. Construction is expected to start in the autumn of 2007 with production planned for mid-2009. Powerchip Semiconductor Corp has stated that it is currently installing equipment at Fab 12M, its recently acquired facility from Macronix and is expected to be in production by September 2006. PSC has licensed AG-AND flash memory processes from Renesas Technology Corp.
